And the orchids are “blooming”
Well, the quilt is all finished! And I am extremely pleased. I did make several
more changes to the quilt. The batiks are so vivid and beautiful that when I looked at the previous template I realised that the fabrics would not show well so I went back to the drawing board and came up with another idea.. Instead of too many small triangles I opted for larger triangles but more on the lines of framing the middle panel.
I had another batik in black color which sort of looked good to me for the binding but when I placed it in my EQ program to view, it sort of wanted to make the whole quilt smaller and also too deliberate. So I dug around and found a purple batik in my stash which matched perfectly with the colors of the orchid so I used it instead for the binding.
After getting all the borders set up and joined to the middle panel, I decided stipple quilting would be perfect. Stippling is a sort of a meandering free motion stitching which never crosses on itself. It tends to flatten the quilt and enhance those areas that are not quilted. I am a stipple queen…LOL. It is one of my favourite things to do. Once started it is rather hard to stop, but it is hard to get started…Yes, needles can break if one is not careful and I only

ended up with one broken in this project. It was totally my fault though.
The finished quilt measures approximately 21 1/2″ x 18″, a nice size for a wall miniature and a great way to showcase the embroideries.

Sadia,
Just found your website. It is awsome. The orchid quilt is beautiful. Was this a large pattern that was drawn, digitized and sewn out using multiple hoopings? I’m a beginner digitizer and until I retire, I’m learning and doing only smaller projects. Love to see all your wonderful designs.

Hello Donna, Thank you for your comment, I truly appreciate it. The orchid quilt idea came to me when I was trying to incorporate all the designs from my Orchid Bouquets collection- http://www.sadiasews.com/orchid.html I wanted to showcase all the different orchids in one place. Having done that I needed some sort of a display and that is when the idea of the mini quilt came to me. It is small enough to take to shows and large enough to showcase all the designs. As there were so many designs I had to draw out a plan for the stitching of all and that is where the template method came in handy and worked real well. I don’t ever believe that one should be limited to just one design on a piece of fabric, LOL. Welcome to the world of digitizing, you will love it. It really is an addictive art. Hugs, Sadia
