PE Design/Palette version 7 Update-ME
The past several weeks I have had numerous emails from friends asking if I have learned of the new features of PE Design/Palette and if it is worth the amount to purchase the upgrade. I am still not sure of the difference of the purchase price between version 5 to 7 and version 6 to 7 but I believe after returning from the Bobbin show I will have more details. Meanwhile I contacted Carol Price who is a private instructor of PE Design/Palette softwares (please do visit her website and believe me her tutorials are the best if you really want to learn this software) asking for any information about the upgrade. True to her helpful nature, Carol immediately sent me several pages and images of most of the new features. I have to admit some of them look extremely good. Carol did let me know that she is writing the tutorial for the upgrade, the date is not yet known. One of the most interesting things I like about the upgrade is the monogram tool. This alone is worth purchasing the upgrade.
The ability to use TTF and built in fonts with various design elements is a dream come true. I know of several good friends who love to monogram everything and I’m sure this tool will be quite popular.
One of the most desired tools which btw is included in Embird Studio is the shape tool which allows the user to create shapes from preset shapes.
There are many other additions as well as can be seen from the various set ups in the first image. I particularly am impressed with the wave feature of the motifs, very impressive! Ofcourse the utilization of combining several motifs in one object is one that I would dearly love to see in Embird Studio.
I hope to test drive the software next week and perhaps do get the upgrade. My only concern is that I have purchased so many upgrades that the cost of the software only keeps on rising. I never upgraded to 6 as version 5 did not have the ability to save in older versions which I hope that version 7 will be able to do. Meanwhile, here are some pretties for all to see, thanks to Carol Price.
I have version 2 and my dealer tells me that I will have to buy the complete version7 as there is no upgrade from version2 to version7. I think this is wrong as I paid a lot of money to buy version2 and now have to buy the software again.
Cecelia, I’m so sorry that I’m answering your post so late. I believe it is after version 4 that one can apply the upgrades. Prior to that time especially version 2 caused a lot of commotion as the full version was posted for all to download on the internet (from Canada I believe it was). Since then there have been many who upgraded with the illegal version with the updates. It took a while for Brother to find out about this but by then many had already profitted. That is why version 4 came out with a new dongle/card read writer box. It is a shame that because of these few nasty people everyone must now suffer. I understand your dilemna as well but unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about it. I would suggest that if you are using it to transfer designs to your machine to purchase the ultimate box or the PE basic which does the same thing. Hugs, Sadia

just thought you would like to know, I have just successfully upgraded from version 2 to version 6. We had to do the upgrade because version 2 could not work on the new laptop which like most others now does not have a serial port.
Incidentally they both appear to work fine with windows new operating system, ‘VISTA’, although I had to use the compatability wizard to install version 2.

I was wondering if you can help me. I have pe design 2 installed on my computer. I recently bought from ebay, pe design version 4 with an upgrade to 5 but it is palette. I also have an up grade to 6 with pe design. First of alll, there is a security device with 4 that I cannot plug in to anything. My printer port is different. palette 5 tells me that the system thread chart failed to open and pe design 6 tells me that there isn’t a dongle installed. The dongle will work with pe design 2. Can you help???? Tina
Tina, there is a device that one can purchase which allows the printer port type plug in to be plugged. I believe it is usb, any computer store should have it. PE design version 4 dongle is different than the version 4 of Palette. As long as the dongle and the version match up (same company) it is allright to have an upgrade of the other (either one, brother or babylock). Version 6 will not install or work unless the dongle (version 4)is attached first. The dongle with version 2 is not the same as version 4. Hope this helps. Hugs, Sadia

We have version 4.0, but the computer we use is a laptop, which does not have the serial port. What must I have to make this work with my laptop?
Kristy, you can purchase a serial/usb converter cable. One side of the cable will be usb, which will connect to your laptop and the other side will have a port with serial attachment for the PE 4.0. Hope this helps. Hugs, Sadia
