Continuation of Holidays 2008

Continuing with my creation of the Holiday gift designs, I decided to create items that could lesornbe blended together as well as used separately. Freestanding ornaments are the easiest to make at this time of the year especially when one has to multi-task. For my Studio Yahoo group members, I decided on a freestanding lace ornament. Stitched out in any color, the ornament is perfect to adorn the Christmas tree, on stockings, on gifts and also on wearables. One easiest method is to stitch out several of the ornaments and just tack down onto a sweater, knit shirt etc to embellish for the holidays. The star shape design is quick to stitch out and as I indicated, the possibilities are plenty.

For quite some while now, I have been toying with the  idea of creating freestanding patchwork ornaments. When I was designing the Victorian Patchwork several years ago, joyI had designed them to be used in this manner. Using the same technique, I decided to use craft fleece to make yet another type of ornament. Craft fleece is great for making ornaments for the holidays. The fabric cuts away easily and leaves no threads that one must trim afterwards. Using two colors of craft fleece, I created the ornament with the word “Joy”. Using two types of manually punched finishing stitches, with a freestanding lace loop at the top, the ornament came out looking great. The ornament can be found on my Yahoo newsletter group.

Embroidered designs for the holidays definitely are a must to jbagazz up gifts, home decor and wearables. And if the designs are freestanding, well  ……. let’s just say it gets to be so much more easier. The choice of the stabilizer is a known…water soluble. There is no need to figure out how to place the item on the hoop, as the lace after being washed, can be tacked anywhere you please.

With this in mind, I created a freestanding lace edge, which by the way matches the ornament covers. The edge can be tacked on with machine or by hand. The Country Chrismtas tree design is also a free design to my Yahoo newsletter group and using it, I decided to make a gift bag with the lace trim at the top and then added a few beads to give it more pizazz.

The gift bag, is a very simple project. Stitch out your design, place a trim on the edges to close the sides and double fold down the top. Add the lace trim and a few beads and some glitter, and the bag is done. The same design and trim can also be used on a stocking if preferred.

As for the lace trim, it is part of the Gift 2008 designs and can be found on my website: http://www.sadiasews.com/gift2008.html  Not only can it be used on home runnerdecor items but also on the cuffs of blouses, skirts, etc. I was only concentrating on creating a straight edge but a few friends coaxed me into creating the corner as well. I really like it and have many ideas already swimming in my head, especially as the designs can be used throughout the year.

With that said, I’m going to upload the gift designs for 2008 on my website as the last thing to be done for this year. I hope for a fantastic 2009 beneficial to everyone all around the world.orn May we find peace in our hearts, strenght to overcome negativity and compassion for all beings. May our world progress and grow to love one another regardless of caste, creed, color, religion, ethnicity etc. It is the only world we have and lets make it a wonderful place not just for ourselves but for our future generations. Love and Hugs to all, Sadia

Thank you so much for the ornaments. I didn’t get to use them this year but plan to work on some throughout the year and send them to my children on their wedding anniversaries. That way they have something new for Christmas and in time for decorating. Again, Thank You!
