Hello 2009!

Hello 2009 and heartiest welcome to a new year. I’m sure there are many who are with me in welcoming the new year, and have great hopes for a better world.

The last two weeks passed a bit too soon for my liking and I would have preferred to have them drag on a bit. Christmas Eve was spent with dear friends whom John and I have known for a very long time. Then, last week John and I decided to trek down memory lane, and search out my parent’s house when we lived in Maryland, eons ago. What a difference! The house and area as I remembered it, are still there, but somehow everything shrank! LOL. It was fun to try and remember everything and I was amazed at the growth of the area from when I was a tiny tot.

I am long overdue in saying “Thanks” to so many people who sent me emails last month. Please excuse me if I didn’t get around to answering your email ,and accept my grateful thanks for the lovely comments and emails you sent.

awardOne of the emails was from one of my dearest friend, Cindy. Among several of the blogs in my blogroll, Cindy’s is one of my favorites, Adventures of a Seamstress in Kyoto. And they definitely are adventures! Cindy’s email had an interesting gift in it…an Uber-award for having an Amazing Blog! Wow! Thanks Cindy for nominating me. Ofcourse, I now have to pass it on and nominate two blogs for the award. It was not the easiest of things to do as I have so many blogs that I read.  But in the end, I finally narrowed down to two blogs: Isle B. Stitching and In a Minute Ago. Both are two of my very favorite to read throughout the week and offer such interesting projects.  Thank you again Cindy, for the lovely award.

New year always means new designs, and a good look at what I want to do for the rest of the year. I have been sort of undecided, as I had not two but three ideas that I worked upon last year for 2009’s debut. I’ve finally settled on one now and hope to post some more about it. Yes, I’m going to be a bit of a tease and not say anything just yet. Soon though….

I didn’t really get to read a lot of my emails during the holidays but a couple that caught my attention are definitely worth mentioning. I really ought not to be amazed but it did catch me off guard when I read that Cyber Crime, and in particular copyright infringement are next to the top in the list for the Justice Department. Wow! Well, we are living in the space age so to speak, and cyber crimes are increasing on a daily basis. No, I’m not going to go on a tirade about copyrights but I will ask friends to be careful in respecting other’s properties.

The other item that caught my attention was a notification by SVP International, the owner of Singer, Husquavarna Viking and Pfaff. The company is cutting back on some of their offices as well as manufacturing plant. To read more about what is happening in the sewing/embroidery world, I recommend visiting http://www.vdta.com/ and to click on the breaking news icon.

As to my New Year’s resolutions, well….I have several but at the top of the list pertaining to machine embroidery, continues to be the pursuit of recreating the heirlooms of yesterday via the embroidery machine. Looking back at last year and the debut of the “Grace I” collection, I have to say that at least one of my resolutions was definitely met. As for the other resolutions….I’m working on them. LOL, no I didn’t say what they are. Carolyn and I will continue our journey together this year in introducing more innovative and original ideas via the Grace collections, and we are both excited about them. More on the next Grace collection soon.
