Machine Embroidery for a cause

Several months ago, a dear friend showed me a lovely bracelet that she had purchased at a craft show. “It is called a cancer awareness bracelet”, she told me. The bracelet could be found in any awareness color of choice and as far as price was concerned, it was anywhere from $20 to $150 depending upon the preferences. The thought stayed in my mind for a long while and I often thought about purchasing a whole bunch for friends and relatives. That was until the idea hit me….use the one tool that I know, machine embroidery. Over the years, I’ve created awareness freestanding lace ribbons, which can be downloaded freely and stitched out for loved ones or for sale, so why not create a Cancer dedication bracelet!

Armed with the idea, I set upon creating my dedication bracelet. The first one that I designed was all one color with beads all around, which led to creating one with beads of a preferred color and eventually leading up to creating one showing several colors of dedication. Digitizing the designs gave me a sense of calmness and peace that I cannot describe. All I know is that after stitching out samples, my heart felt full.

Uploading the designs and announcing it on my Yahoo newsletter group, I suddenly had a barrage of emails. Reading each email, with tears running down my cheeks, I felt the need to reach out through my blog, to thank everyone collectively.  Your emails have touched my heart and I am ever so grateful in knowing each one of you while sharing something that has brought us together.

So many of us have lived with cancer, seen it, and dream of a cure for our future generations. My cause is to raise awareness and to also allow others to use my creativity to spread that awareness. So many friends asked if the bracelet can be sold to raise awareness…my answer…YES, by all means.

Thanks again to each one of you for your lovely lovely emails. I am touched by your stories and your struggles. My heart goes out to each one of you and prays for your and your loved ones. Spread the awareness, however you like, this bracelet is for a cause and machine embroidery has brought us all together in voicing what we all hold in our heart.
