Rooster placemat |
| 1.
My placemat measured approximately 12x14 finished. You can make yours
any size you want. I will leave that upto you. Embroider your motif on the
solid fabric. I used Carol Price's rooster design for matching with my plates.
I chose to embroider my motif on the right bottom side of my placemat. You
can choose your own side. |
2. My placemat was to coordinate with the roosters and foliage
decorations in the kitchen so I chose a foliage printed fabric for my coordinating
printed fabric. You can choose yours in coordination with your decor. I wanted
the foliage and the rooster to show on the front so I cut approximately 3"
strips of my foliage fabric to stitch on all four sides of my embroidered
piece.

3.Place your batting
on a flat surface. Place your printed fabric right side up on top of the
batting. Then place your embroidered piece wrong side up (right side with
the right side of the printed fabric). Pin all these layers secure.
|
4. Stitch
all around the placemat (1/2" seam allowance) on all sides leaving a 3"-4"
opening on one side. Trim away the excess fabric and batting except leave
a little bit more than the seam allowance of the batting and printed fabric
near the opening. |
| 5. Remove
all the pins and pull out the right side of your placemat making sure that
the all four corners are smooth and alike in shape. The extra bit near the
opening that you left of the batting and the printed fabric will help in
keeping the opening smooth and flat. At this point, you may need to iron
your placemat. Iron on low heat. |
6. Stitch
a seam 1/2" away from all edges through all layers. This will also
close your opening and also make your placemat look nice. I chose to do some
stipple quilting but you may just leave the placemat as is or
do some quilting using your even feed foot. The choice is yours. |
