Crazy lazy Project
Ever tested a design on a piece of material
and then not know what to do with it. I have gobs of such in a drawer as
I'm sure you do too. Here's a way to use them to make a crazy quilt stocking which is quick and easy.
| Holiday crazy patch stocking |
| 1.
Trace the shape of your stocking on the muslin fabric. This can be
a store bought or one that you already own. I used an applique teddy bear
design from Carol Price's Christmas collection. You could also use your test
embroidered pieces. I have only used one embroidered piece here but you could
also use more than one if you like. |
2. Take your embroidered
design and trim it to the size that you like. I used a test of Carol Price's
applique teddy bear design which I trimmed so it was in the center of the
stocking.. You don't have to have a square, it can be any shape you want.
The best thing about this crazy lazy method is you don't need to have any
set shape. It can all be whatever you fancy.
|
| 3.
Place different
color/prints around the design. They don't have to exactly match up to the
shape of the center embroidered patch. They also do not need to be square.
You could use your scraps here.
|
4. Use
the gluestick to stick the scraps on the base fabric. Now, you can take your trimmings, ribbons, laces etc. to cover those bare edges. Pin the trimmings and using decorative embroidery threads and using the decorative stitches, sew the trims on top through all layers.
|
| 5. When
all your raw edges are covered, take another piece of your muslin and a piece
of fabric to be used for the back of the stocking . Place the muslin
fabric on a flat surface. Place the stocking back fabric right side up on
top of the muslin fabric. Now, place the stocking top and place it wrong
side up (the right side should be with right side of stocking back fabric). |
6. Stitch
through all layers giving it an approximate 1/4" seam allowance. Once that
is done, turn your stocking right side out. Now it is lined without you having
to do much and you are ready to embellish it more if you like or to put on
the cuff. |
| 7. Cut
a piece of your cuff fabric to make the holder loop for the stocking. Fold
it right sides together and sew. Turn it right side out and stitch it to
the corner of the stocking. |
8.
Measure the top opening of your stocking
and cut out cuff fabric the same width giving it an extra 1/2" seam allowance.
Sew the seam of the cuff and then stitch it to the stocking. If you
place the cuff right side with wrong side inside the stocking and sew then
when you flip the cuff out, your seam won't show. |
