Kanta Floral Motif Lace Basket instructions:

Making Lace baskets is all the rage these days. I have shown below the technique to making a lace basket using the Kanta Floral Motif 15. As this is a monochromatic design, we only need three colors for our stitching. I have used gold metallic, beige and brown for my basket.

Instructions:

1. Hoop wash away stabilizer and stitch out eight of the Kanta Floral Motif 15 design. Wash away the stabilizer completely from the lace. It is important not to let the wash away stabilizer remain in the laces. The designs are firm enough to stand on their own.

2. Place the eight motifs in a circle. You will notice that the circle is not totally complete. This will allow an automatic lifting of the laces to create the bowl.

3. Let the motifs dry completely before stitching them together. Using monofilament thread join all eight motifs together. Use a wide zigzag on your sewing machine.

4. When all eight motifs are joined together you will notice that you have to pull on the first and the last motif to bring it closer together to join.

5. This is how your lace bowl will look from the bottom and the top.

6. Place the lace on a round bowl turned upside down. We will stiffen our laces to give them more stability. I use Stiffen Stuff which is available in any Wal-mart in their craft department. Using a paint brush lightly brush the stiffen stuff on the bottom side of the bowl. Let dry.

7. Once your bowl is completely dry you can now attach a piece of fabric at the bottom. I use tapestry fabric as it is a heavy weight fabric. Place your lace bowl on top of the fabric. Pin the bowl to the fabric. Do not cut away excess fabric yet.

8. Using monofilament thread and using a wide zigzag stitch, join the fabric to the lace bottom side.

9. Once you have stitched the fabric to the bowl, you can trim away the excess fabric from beneath.

Your lace bowl is now finished!

In the same manner you can create a large lace doily to accompany your bowl.

These lace bowls can be used as a candy dish, for pot pourri, soaps etc.
